The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is building a 2km-long tunnel at the internationally important Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road. The construction is taking place at the crossing of the Dariali and Devdorak gorges. During the last years, natural disaster has occurred at the site several times which resulted in average one million Lari loss daily for the country. When the tunnel is constructed this problem will be solved and Georgia will have a safe transit road.
The project budget is GEL 51 892 174.44 and is financed by the Georgian government. The construction works started in May and will be completed in November, 2018. The project has created 140 new jobs.
