Kitchen – what is essential for planning and designing kitchen, and what should a client  know before he/she chooses the model and style. Only when the kitchen appliances are properly installed by professionals one can check catalogues, the internet or think about rendering it.

In this blog we are  going to discuss the first step of design an efficient and stylish kitchen. Let’s talk about facades and countertop and the range of materials available.

Laminate façade (chipboard or laminate chipboard, HPL) is low budget, aimed at temporary use, looks ordinary.

MDF  façade (painted) is highly solid, flexible enough to provide required shape, is heat and humidity resistant.

Solid wood façade is not heat resistant and can undergo deformation. To avoid this special lacquer and antiseptic substances are used which make it quite costly.

Glass façade combined with aluminium frames or MDF doors guarantees  maximum durability.  Glass facades are humidity resistant and create feeling of cleanliness and neatness.

Another important aspect is choice of countertops:

Granite   is a solid material.   In case of right maintenance it can serve forever. Marble - natural material, is however, susceptible to stains, scratching and chipping therefore  should be treated with special care.

Stainless Steel  is almost indestructible. Unlike natural materials (granite and marble) it resists heat, grease, liquid  and bacteria.

Chipboard is relatively low budget and practical. Can be covered with heat-resistant plastic. This affordable countertop material is a good choice if your budget is tight.

Glass surface  allows creative approach for design. Should be carefully treated as is prone to scratching.

Atrificial stone ( acrylic) is more durable than natural materials. Easy to take care of. Resists bacteria.

Quartz surfacing has the same advantages as solid surfacing with regard to maintenance.

We hope this blog allowed you to navigate the wide variety of materials available before addressing a designer or a kitchen furniture supplier.

In the next blog we’ll talk about some peculiarities of planning.
